  • Reality TV shows dominating summer ratings for the 18-49 demographic

    No wonder programming execs insist reality is here to stay. The Hollywood Reporter reports that for the week ending July 28, four of the top five and seven of the top 10 shows in 18-49 belonged to the genre, including NBC's "Dog Eat Dog" and "Fear Factor" and CBS' "Big Brother 3." Moreover, every night except Friday offered at least one high-rated reality contender. Even long-suffering ABC is in on the action; its "Mole II: The Next Betrayal" took second place in its time slot (3.5/10) and would almost certainly be doing even better if not scheduled opposite "Idol."

    ABC has announced the July 23rd 11th episode of "Mole II" attracted its largest audience and best adult 18-34 rating of the series, generating ABC's highest adult 18-34 delivery in the hour since November 2001. Together with 'According To Jim' and the finale of 'Houston Medical,' it allowed ABC to post its strongest Tuesday night of the summer in viewers and young adults.

    After being nominated for eviction by Roddy Mancuso, the third Head of Household, Amy Crews was evicted from the BIG BROTHER 3 house based on the votes of her fellow HouseGuests. Amy received more votes than fellow nominee Marcellas Reynolds. Eric Ouellette won the Power of Veto and chose to leave the nominations as they stood.

This action has added fuel to the rumors of plans to have one or more evicted houseguests return to the house at a later date.

    In a move that only proves that media whores apparently are attracted to other true media whores, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that David Lee, an art gallery salesman at Caesars Palace and longtime boyfriend of "several months" of ousted houseguest Tanya Paoni has apparently made it his one man mission to "accept every media request for interviews" in an effort to not only give the public "a truer picture of Tanya" but also to conveniently plaster his mug and name where ever possible.
  • Simon planning 'World Idol' show featuring each country's 'Pop Idol' show winner

    The BBC reports that Simon Fuller, the creator of the successful Pop Idol franchise, is planning to make the TV show into a global talent contest by pitting the winners of different countries against each other. Fuller is working on a show provisionally titled World Idol, following the success of Pop Idol around the globe.
  • PBS to air 'Colonial House' followup series to '1900 House' and 'Frontier House'

    Zap2It.com reports that following the success of "1900 House" and "Frontier House," PBS will turn its time machine on again next season. The latest installment of what the public broadcaster calls "hands-on history" programming will be "Colonial House." Families will live together in a small settlement just as early English colonists did upon arriving in America in the 17th century.

  • 'The Bachelor: Special Edition' to air on ABC Family the week of August 11th

    The Hollywood Reporter reports that ABC is getting a little more mileage of "The Bachelor," creating a behind-the-scenes special about the reality dating series that's to run on sister network ABC Family. The six-part miniseries, titled "The Bachelor: Special Edition," will run six consecutive nights from August 11-16th.
  • Wednesday regular timeslot premiere of 'Meet My Folks' beats FOX's 'American Idol'

  • ABC's 'The Dating Experiment' to premiere Tuesday August 13th at 9PM

    ABC has announced that it will debut its new 'The Dating Experiment' reality romance series on Tuesday, August 13 at 9 PM EST. Hector Elizondo will narrate the show. In the show, complete strangers give up all control of their lives for two weeks to be ruled by a mysterious diary, all in the hopes of finding true love. The series will premiere with two back-to-back episodes, "The Triangle - Part 1" and "The Triangle - Part 2," TUESDAY, AUGUST 13 (9:00-9:30 p.m. and 9:30-10:00 p.m., ET, respectively),
  • New season of 'The Bachelor' to premiere Wednesday, September 25th at 9PM EST

    ABC has announced its fall premiere dates and the second season of 'The Bachelor' will premiere on Wednesday, September 25th at 9PM EST. ABC will air three eight-episode arcs of the reality series. The first and last arcs, like the original, will feature single bachelors.   • TI2 temper Tony claims to have been 'misled' and drugged into making porno video, fights to keep teaching job

    Gay.com reports that in court records released last week, former 'Tempation Island 2' tempter Tony Vanchieri, 27, a gym teacher in Broward County, Fla. who appeared in a gay porn movie, claims he was misled into believing the video was for modeling scouts. Vanchieri was put on desk duty after MSNBC published a story on its Web site in December that Vanchieri was in the porn video "Solo Guys: Volume 1" (a story that we also reported on when it occurred.)
  • 'Temptation Island' producers now casting for new FOX 'The Big Choice' reality TV show

    FOX and Rocket Science Laboratories (the producers of such wholesome entertainment as "Temptation Island") have teamed up for a new reality series tentatively called THE BIG CHOICE. They are conducting a nationwide search for attractive, intelligent, out-going men and women who are ready for a "serious relationship" (whatever that means -- remember, these *ARE* the producers of Tempation Island that we're talking about.)

    Variety reports that singer Liza Minnelli and husband, producer David Gest will enter the "reality" TV craze with a show called "Liza and David." The show, which being called the first "weekly musical reality series" for VH1, will begin airing as a weekly series in October. VH1 has ordered 10 episodes.
  • 'Big Brother 3' place first for the second consecutive night

    Tonya Paoni won’t win Big Brother but her expulsion from the 'Big Brother 3' house last night did give the reality series a time period win for the second consecutive night, placing first in viewers, households, adults 18-49, adults 18-34 and adults 25-54, according to final Nielsen ratings for Thursday, July 25.

"On the bright side, she won't be doing any driving in the house," Ender said.

    NBC has announced that Playboy's "Playmate Extreme Team" of six centerfolds will compete in a special edition of the hit NBC game show airing Augist 5th. The "Extreme Team" consists of Danelle Folta (Miss April 1995, Shanna Moakler (Miss December 2001), Daphnee Lynn Duplaix (Miss July 1997), Deanna Broooks (Miss May 1998), Stacy Fuson (Miss February 1999) and Jennifer Walcott (Miss August 2001).

    TheSmokingGun.com has reported that "Big Brother 3" contestant Chiara was arrested in late-May for drunk driving. In fact, while the pending criminal case against contestant Chiara Berti was scheduled for arraignment last Friday morning (7/19) in Los Angeles Superior Court, the 25-year-old New York woman was ensconced with her fellow cast mates in the Big Brother house on the grounds of CBS's Studio City compound, just six-miles--and 13 minutes--from the Van Nuys courthouse where Berti's case was called at 9:35 AM.

    Sharon Osbourne's cancer has spread beyond her colon and the wife of the anarchic British rock star Ozzy Osbourne will start a three-month course of chemotherapy at the end of July, she told People magazine in an interview released on Thursday and reported by Reuters.

    ABC has announced that, believing that turnabout is fair play, the ABC Television Network will air "The Bachelorette," a six-episode series in which one woman, Trista Rehn, meets 25 men and begins the courtship process in an attempt to find true romance with one special guy. Rehn was originally introduced to viewers during the first installment of "The Bachelor," ABC's romance reality series in which one man met 25 women, narrowed the field to just Trista and another, but ultimately rejected Trista. The series is expected to premiere in January 2003.
  • Father of reported 'Survivor: Thailand' contestant dies in accident while filming still underway

    The Kingsport Times-News of Tennessee reported today that a Kingsport, TN man was killed Monday evening after his car went off the road and into a ditch. Thomas W. Vance, 62 was killed when his truck struck a driveway culvert, went across the driveway, and came to rest in the ditch on the other side of the driveway. Sullivan County investigators said Vance was not wearing a seat belt.

The move will allow the program to utilize the evening's 9PM episode of 'Dog Eat Dog' as another strong reality-based lead-in.

In keeping with her design background, the bride designed her own wedding gown.

    The Associated Press reports that Sharon Osbourne, wife of Ozzy Osbourne and star of the MTV reality show "The Osbournes," is set to undergo surgery Wednesday for a treatable cancer, her publicist said. Sharon Osbourne "is expected to make a full recovery," according to a news release from Susan Blond Inc. in Los Angeles. "She has the loving support of her husband and three children who are by her side at this time."
